Anahita™ Discussions 1.0 Birth Release is now available

Rastin and Ash the Anahita Core Development Team

This is the second Anahita™ social application that reaches the Birth release. Anahita™ Discussions is one of the first application that we have been using for over 9 months to provide support on Anahitapolis and it has been evolving fast since.

    Anahita Discussions - Topics

Anahita™ Discussions is an extremely light weight social app for people to create topics and comment on them. The main difference between Anahita™ Discussions and the traditional discussion boards is the fact that it integrates seamlessly with the Anahita™ social networking engine and it is especially developed for the social networking context.

    Anahita Discussions - Privacy Settings

Instances of Anahita™ Discussions work within the groups and people profiles. Group administrators have the right to set privacy permissions or moderate the topics within their own domain. In this fashion the task of moderation and administration is distributed amongst the community members.

Anahita Discussions - Commenting on the topics from the Story Feed

As people follow more groups, all the incoming topics and comments from those groups show up on their dashboard. It is also possible to comment on a topic right from the dashboard’s story feed without having to visit a group.

    Anahita Discussions - Leaders Topics

As the last touch we have added a layout that enables a person to view or search all the incoming topics from the groups and people profiles that they are following.

In the upcoming releases of Anahita™ as we are developing the libraries for tagging and folksonomy, all the topics within a discussion board can be tagged by the community members.

Anahita™ Groups 1.0 Birth release now available

This is the first birth release in the collection Anahita™ social applications and one of the most essential ones. We have been using the Anahita™ Groups for about 6 months now to provide service and support to the Anahitapolis members. The only problem was that until recently only the website administrators were able to create and maintain groups. In the 1.0 Birth release any of user types within the system, depending on the configuration, can be allowed to create their own groups, assign administrators, and maintain them.

    Anahita Groups Profile

An Anahita™ group profile is just like a person profile except that a group represents a collection of people coming together to collaborate and stay updated in regards with a shared goal or context. A group has:

    1. an avatar
    2. identity (title, description)
    3. a story feed
    4. a social graph
    5. a collection of social application that are available within it such as (Photos, Discussions, blogs, etc.)

Anahita Social Apps within a group

Instances of applications such as discussions, photos, blogs, etc. work within group and people profiles. A group can be followed just like how a person can be followed. A group is entitled to privacy just like a person is entitled to privacy. Group administrators have the option to remove or ban followers from a group.

To learn more about the Anahita™ Groups visit this page. Premium members can download the package and install it on the Anahita™ 1.5.3 and later.

Congratulations. Anahita is really coming together. Like the fact you mentioned blogs a few times. Must mean its getting closer?

    • Rastin Mehr 4:29 am on March 8, 2011 Permalink

      Thank you @Eric :)

      Closer to what?

    • Eric Doriean 8:34 pm on March 8, 2011 Permalink

Closer to having the blog functionality in Anahita

    • Rastin Mehr 9:37 pm on March 8, 2011 Permalink

Oh you are waiting for the blog! We will have blogs after the folksonomy libraries are implemented in the next release. Building the blogs after that will be quite simple!

    • Eric Doriean 4:07 am on March 11, 2011 Permalink

Cool as. I like it when you use words like folksonomy

Please update your broken link for photos for the Anahita premium package. I purchased it yesterday and I do not have time to wait 72 hours for your company to get back to me. This is not acceptable. Time is money. please update this problem. Many thanks!

    • Rastin Mehr 1:37 am on March 13, 2011 Permalink

@K the link was broken for a short while because we are reorganizing the SVN and building the Anahita Photos Birth release as we speak. We apologize for the inconvenience. The link has been updated and if you can wait a bit longer we will have the stable packages ready too soon. I’ve just sent you an email with more information.

Update on the Anahita™ Subscriptions App

    Update on Anahita™ Subscriptions

On January 18th when we announced the Anahita Social Networking Engine 1.5 birth release, we also mentioned that there will be a new highly requested social app added to our collection.

The new app is actually the Anahita™ Subscriptions which we have been using for the past 3 weeks to sell our Premium Tribe membership plan. The application has been working quite nicely actually except one bug which prevented the users to sign up using the American Express cards. We think this application will be a great option for many people who will be selling membership plans, for example commercial GPL developers.

We haven’t yet made downloadable packages for the Anahita™ Subscriptions available. We realized that some design changes could really improve the application so we are working on that. The code is however available to all our Premium and First Tribe members in the code repository, so those who know their way around software development and building Anahita social apps can start experimenting with it.

I will be posting more updates for you regarding the Anahita™ Subscriptions app as soon as we are done with the design changes for the first release. If you are not a Premium or First Tribe member and you have questions or suggestions regarding this project, please feel free to post them on the Anahitapolis Atrium group. You can apply for a free account here.

Anahita Social ™ Tweets now available to the Tribe of Partners

The Anahita – Twitter integration is the first social app that is available for the Anahita Social Engine 1.0 alpha3 codebase.

    David Joly

Anahita Social ™ Tweets codename David Joly from DavidJoly.com has been named after the super awesome Anahita partner who has funded half of the development hours for this social app and agreed that we release the code under the GPL2 to all the Anahita Partners and continue maintaining the codebase in Anahitapolis.

    Anahita Social ™ Tweets

Anahita Social ™ Tweets provides all the necessary APIs for the following features:

    • Reading incoming tweets from an existing Twitter @account and displaying them either in a Gadget or the Story Feed.
    • Signing up a user through twitter if they don’t have a registered account. In this case they still have to register through the site but their account gets linked after registration.
    • Mapping an authenticated Twitter user to an Anahita user.
    • Quick Sign-in using an existing Twitter @account credentials
    • Handling multiple Twitter accounts for an actor node (Person, Group, Event, Project, etc. )
    • Posting a story update, custom message, or system notification from Anahita Social Engine ™ to one or many Twitter Accounts belonging to an Actor node.

The API is quite fun and simple to use. To give you an idea here is an example:

    $actor->twitterAccounts->postUpdate($update);

Speaking of Twitter you, can follow us @anahitapolis and hashtag #anahita to receive updates about the Anahita project.

Sharing and Blogging Photos on Anahita

We weren’t quite thrilled about our first implementation since it was behaving more like the facebook photo sharing app. I mean creating an album and uploading a list of party pictures is not exactly that exciting. Being an avid photographer and flickr addict I know that sometimes a lot of work goes into creating a great image and we want to make sure that every photograph gets all the attention that it deserve. We thought that Anahita Social ™ Photos should behave more like a blogging and expression platform for the photographers and not just an online shoe box of images.

Anahita Social ™ Photos - photo stream

I must say that our implementation has been partly inspired by projects such as WordPress and Flickr.com with an Anahita philosophy in mind. In order to implement the photos and albums we have actually extended the Anahita Social Engine ™ Media Nodes API and therefore all albums and individual pictures can be tagged and commented on.

Anahita Social ™ Photos is already operating using the Amazon S3 service and of course you can easily change the settings if you wish to store all the images locally on your own server.

Looks amazing, and the interface is nice and clean. Well done.

      @James @Joh Thank you :)

Anahita looks very polished. Not cluttered, simple but not simplistic. This is much appreciated. However, I would like to point out that what will make or break this app is the groups feature. imho this is where most of the useful functionality and interaction takes place. Photos, classifieds, maps integration and calendars are all nice, but groups are the meat and potatos. I would like to suggest you include a lot of functionality in the groups feature. Calendars are a must so groups can publish their events to everyone. A sort of mini-wiki would also be nice so groups can organize their papers. And formatting that enables pdf printing is never wrong. Moderation of group blog entries are really useful. And the ability to run more than one blog or even a sort of board inside the group would be a bonus.
I feel you have a great app and I want to try it asap :-) Please refresh your blog often. Also, what are your plans regarding Joomla 1.6 which is not too far away now? Best of luck to you all :-)

    • Rastin Mehr 3:01 am on November 22, 2009 Permalink

Hi Tom, thank you for the wonderful comment!

Group feature is on the way. Not only that, all kinds of group-like features are on the way in much more flexible architecture than the other available variations in the Internet ecosystem today. We have a habit of not talking about something in public unless it has already been developed.

So as the Anahita 0.9.4 and 0.9.5 are being released we will be explaining more on the anahitapolis blog. What you see right now is only a glimpse of what will be a truly organic architecture :)

Regarding the features that you have mentioned I must say that your intuition is right, just wait a bit longer, good software development takes time and proper foundations. The good news is that building new features is getting simpler at every release.

As for Joomla 1.6 we are watching the codebase and also we are in touch with the Nooku team on a daily basis. So far no comments. We haven’t modified the core of Joomla 1.5 in order to develop Anahita and I don’t see why it shouldn’t work with 1.6 either.

Thank you so much for the kind words :)

Being very much desperate to see your first public release, it is certainly great to see a glimpse of what to come, here on your blog. This is very promising.

Thank you, and keep it up!

    • Richard Feenstra 8:35 am on November 26, 2009 Permalink

I’ve been using Jomsocial for a year now. Works good, but Anahita looks, feels sounds much better. Can’t wait to test some! Any date for a realse or beta? I sure like to test it on my 6000 members community.

      Keep up the good work!
